Self and team awareness

The progamme described in this section is given as an illustration of how we might respond to a request for a five day programme addressing both a team and personal development agenda.

The subject of teamwork is intrinsically linked to personal development, since at its most basic it is about recognising and valuing differences in people.

The strength of the team comes from diversity. Yet it is often diversity which is the root cause of problems in a team. It is a paradox. Teamwork requires trust, open communication and a sense of common purpose. Yet diversity acts against these key ingredients, breeding mis-trust of that which we do not understand and mis-communication through lack of a shared perspective.

Our approach to teamwork, therefore, is to create awareness. An awareness of ourselves and the differences which exist between us and others. With an increase in awareness we are more able to understand the different perspectives which lie within the team, and ultimately within ourselves.

All programmes are custom designed to meet the specific requirements of each team and the individuals within it. Typically, as in this example, this will involve a combination of practical exercises, discussion groups and psychometrics, with the emphasis on providing a flexible development experience.
